I wish to start a library on Mendeley on the Web. There are no PDF files involved; I just want to use Mendeley (Web) to organize citations. I have the "Post to Mendeley" bookmarklet, or whatever it is called, installed in my IE9 browser, so for any individual article I can get it into the Mendeley Web system by visiting the article on the web and letting the bookmarklet do its thing. So far, so good. However, I want to start my library off with 2040 entries obtained from another system. I want the basic bibliographical information for those articles to be whatever Mendeley says it is, so I do not want to download a BibTeX file from the other system and then upload that into Mendeley. Rather I just want to feed a list of 2040 URLs (and they may be DOI links) into Mendeley and let Mendeley obtain the bibliographical information. The articles are from the physical and chemical sciences, generally from major journals published by, for example, AIP, IOP, APS or EPS. Is this a reasonable wish and can it be accommodated?

MS Word 2010 does not show References on the toolbar
I carefully searched for an answer of my problem without finding it: I can install the plugin sucessfully (says Mendeley) - but Word 2010 does not show anything on the toolbar - how can I make it visible to use Mendeley in Word.
(I also use Endnote, but I know people using both - so that cannot be the problem)
Thanks for your help!

How to do multiple citations of different pages in the same work
I need to insert multiple citations which refer to the same book, but to cite different pages in each case. Here's an example:
The general view is that no-one knows (Kant, 1781, pp. 17-20)...
On the other hand, everyone thinks someone knows (Kant, 1781, pp. 151-157)...
Kant, I., 1781. *Kritik der reinen Vernunft*
[End of example]
What I need is a robust way to (a) make the citation and add the page number; and (b) not have multiple instances of the book in my Mendeley library (nor in the bibliography). That is, the page numbers don't get messed up when I refresh or change styles.
Is there a way to do this?

Hi,
I have the 10.5.8 version of MacosX and I have registered in Mendeley and downloaded the Mendeley Desktop application (for Mac OS X 10.5+ version).
When I try to log-in, I obtained this message in the log-in window:
“An error occurred when contacting with Mendeley. Contact support”
Do you have a solution?
Thank you very much.

Adding references without adding PDFs
I've just started using Mendeley. I would like to be able to add a reference I found from within Mendeley Web on an open access site (PLoS ONE, to be specific) without adding the PDF file that goes with it. Is this possible? If not, is it possible to delete the PDF from the online library without deleting the reference from my library?

importing references from Endnote version 7
My reference database is in Endnote 7. Only v8, X1, X2, and X3 are listed in the Import menu in Mendeley Desktop, but I thought I'd try to import my references anyway. So I exported my Endnote 7 library as an XML file, and went through the motions of importing it into Mendeley Desktop. There are 953 references in my Endnote 7 database, but only 173 were imported into Mendeley Desktop.
Is there a way to import an Endnote 7 reference library into Mendeley?

Adding habd written references to my medeley
I am loving mendeley so far, having only just joined i am wondering how I add all my hand written references from my previous essays into my mendeley account, they are not ebooks or pdf's that i can drag and drop, they are simply all my previous bibliography lists that I have previously hand written into essays or used the word citation tools...I cannot seem to add these to my list. Assistance would be great as a paper is due shortly!
Thank you

Is it ok to change the location of files and folders?
Hi,
I recently started using Mendeley, and have some basic questions:
-At the moment, all my files are stored in a folder in my Desktop. If I move this folder to dropbox, will Mendely find it? I am affraid that my annotations may disapear when doing this, is this possible?
-Can I somehow export all the files and annotations in order to have a backup?
Thanks!

Author and 2 Desktops
Hi there,
first congratulations for this wonderful tool- I find it VERY useful! I have two questions:
1. Is there any problem if I install Medeley Desktop on a sencond lap top (one that I use when travelling)- or does this work by just synchronising, and then it updates all three versions (Web and 2 desktop)?
2. I work a lot with grey literature for which the references are not available automatically. My problem is with manually entering one or several authors name. Where do I find a guideline how to do that correctly, so that it does not show me a strange result?
many thanks and best regards
Claudia

Exporting Websites from RefWorks into Mendeley
One of my faculty members is trying to move her citations from RefWorks into Mendeley. While citations to articles moved successfully records for websites did not. For example, a website with a title like "Infectious Diseases" ends up in Mendeley as a record with the author "I. Disease" - and the URL does not transfer at all.
What steps should I tell her to follow to get these records correctly exported from RefWorks and correctly imported into Mendeley? She has a lot of them.

Editing the number of authors inline
I have the identical issue to the one posted here:
http://support.mendeley.com/customer/portal/questions/668341-number-of-authors-listed-in-the-inline-citation
I don't see an answer to the question above.
I'm trying to create a version of the American Psychological Association 6th edition and even though I've edited it in the visual editor by editing the inline citations 'et-al-min' to 3 and other settings as this user did, and updated my the format on the desktop and refreshed the document it still doesn't abbreviate the list of authors as the sample citations show. In other words the sample citations look right in the editor but not in my document.
Also I now can't seem to access the original version of the citation style to start a fresh edit, as I'm getting an error message when I try to launch the editor from the desktop.
Please advise, thank you.

Reviewing fields before merging duplicates
How do I review the fields?
In the list of duplicates, only one entry is shown.
In the checkbox list, only one entry is shown.
So how can anything be reviewed, without exiting from the merge process? Do I have to set up two browser windows to see the different entries simultaneously?
Here are two example problems.
If the keyword sets are different in the duplicates, will Mendeley choose just one keyword set, or by default merge both sets and remove duplicate keywords?
If I need to manually check both sets, and pick and choose the keywords to be kept, who should I do this?
If the book title associated with a book chapter is absent in one duplicate and present in the other, will the merged entry contain the book title? I expect it will, but this should be explained.
