Insert bottom won't work

When I push the insert reference bottom in MS Word, it won't work! I didn't have any problem before (although it was a little slow) but now it has a longer pause and after a few seconds opens up the Mendeley desktop and nothing more happens!my laptop is a Mac, I tried reinstalling the plugin as well as the desktop app but neither of them was helpful! Any idea is highly appreciated!
