File references for importing bibtex file

So far I have managed my references with Jabref and I have a long reference list with links to the PDF files included. For me it is essential that I can import the complete information of my bibtex file in order to use Mendeley. I have tried to import just a few documents and drag&dropped the bibtex file in Mendeley. The software recognized the articles and organized the information. But the link to the PDF which looks like = {:/home/user/literature/Year_Author_Title.pdf:PDF} in the bibtex file does not work in Mendeley. Instead the bibtex file itself is included as file information and on click Jabref will open with the file I had imported. How can this problem be resolved so that the link to the file is recognized by Mendeley and copied into the Mendeley file structure?
