How do I cite with the authors names outside the parentheses?

How do I change the setting so that mendeley is able to cite the authors name outside the parentheses automatically? Say, my citation needs to be in the format "Miller and Collins (2009) ...". Otherwise I'll have to manually edit the citation and change the position of the parentheses which mendeley subsequently asks in a pop up screen if I would like to undo the manual editing, which is annoying.
