Mendley icon in Word 2008

Hi, I'm a IOS 10.9.5 user and MS word 2008 user. I had the MS word plugin installed and used it last year normally. Now when I click the icon in word (the one next to help) that use to have the mendley menu, know has nothing. When I tried installing the plugin again mendeley says that it only works on word 2011. Is that true?? If I'm 2008 word user I can no longer use the plugin???
