Hi,
I am having trouble using Mendeley and wonder if this may be because I'm also using Windows 8. My browser is Firefox. (Note: My technological skills normally consist of using a microwave properly.)
Firstly, every other time I open Mendeley Desktop, I am informed that it has crashed and needs to be recovered.
Secondly, Mendeley desktop won't import my EndNote libraries. It directs me to select a file (file, import, Endnote, popup box), but when I click on an EndNote library, it has a "rdb" folder and a "trash" folder. Selecting either does nothing.
Thirdly, although I followed the directions to install the web importer and it says it is in my bookmarks bar, the "install the web importer" warning is still on my dashboard.
Fourthly, I can't seem to import anything from anywhere unless I first download the PDF. This is normally not an option. I tried to use the bookmark "import to Mendeley" and I got this message: "Could not detect bibliographic metadata. Create metadata below to enhance the quality of this resource." Then I tried the following: send to, citation manager, create file, open with Mendeley Desktop, ok. This download a citation, but I have been unable to open or find this citation.
Lastly, I using the PsychInfo database and the "import to Mendeley" toolbar button doesn't work. My options are to "save citations to a file formatted for:
Direct Export in RIS Format (e.g. CITAVI, EasyBib, EndNote, ProCite, Reference Manager, Zotero)
Generic bibliographic management software
Citations in XML format
Citations in BibTeX format
Citations in MARC21 format
Direct Export to RefWorks
Direct Export to EndNote Web
I don't understand what to do here. Frankly, I don't understand what to do about any of this. I am attempting to switch to Mendeley from EndNote because EndNote definitely does not cooperate with Windows 8. I would be very appreciative of any help.
